Synopsis

The publication discusses contemporary graffiti in Ljubljana through different historical periods, when graffiti were a visible social phenomenon,  which significantly influenced the norms of dominant discourse. The periods covered are the Second World War, the Eighties and the Nineties of the 20th century and the Two-Thousands. The later period is the background of the theoretical analysis and the representation of more than ten years of personal experience in the graffiti scene. Historical composition points out the first period with the resistance graffiti of OF (Liberation Front) as the first contemporary Slovenian graffiti. The essential part of the research is the first focused ethnographic analysis of archival sources, witnesses and personal observations, which displays graffiti and similar interventions in the public space of Ljubljana in a chronological and thematic manner.
