Synopsis

Popular music in former Yugoslavia appear to have had a much deeper impact on the development of the socialist state and its successors than is usually thought to be the case. The collection by the authors from the region presents feelings, stories and memories on popular music in Yugoslavia and its successor states.

Author Biographies

Miha Kozorog

Miha Kozorog (b. 1975) graduated at the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana. In 2008 he finished PhD at the same university. In 2007 he was fellowship-holder at the University of Udine. Between 2010 and 2012 he was postdoctoral researcher. For several years he was editor of the ethnological/anthropological monograph series Zupanic’s Collection and member of the student initiative of former Yugoslavia Roaming Anthropology. Since 2015 he is editor-in-chief of the Bulletin of the Slovenian Ethnological Society. He is also employed as Research Fellow at the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU). In 2012 his research work was recognized by the Slovenian Research Agency as exceptional scientific achievement in social and cultural anthropology.

Rajko Muršič

Born in Maribor, 1963; BA in ethnology and philosophy (1991), MA in cultural anthropology (1995), PhD in ethnology (1998). In 2009 he was elected full professor. He worked as a part-time journalist and redactor (1986-1998), served as the chief editor of the journal Glasnik SED and its monographs collection (1994-1997). He was a founder and the first editor of the monograph series Zupaničeva knjižnica (1999-2002). He is a member of more than a dozen international and domestic professional associations (vice-president of the IUAES, president of the Slovenian association Kula), bodies and editorial boards and is active in organisation of international conferences and summer schools (Mess; Easa; Konitsa Summer School in Anthropology, Ethnography and Comparative Folklore of the Balkans; Border Crossings Network).
