Synopsis

Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa, commonly known as hemp, has historically been used for its nutritional, industrial, and medicinal properties. The plant produces cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD), which have shown therapeutic effects, including anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, and analgesic properties. This study examines the antimicrobial potential of CBD and a complete hemp isolate against Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a model yeast organism. Using the solid-state diffusion method, different concentrations of CBD and hemp isolate were applied to S. cerevisiae cultures. Results showed that both CBD and hemp isolate displayed varying levels of antimicrobial activity, with the most significant effects observed at higher concentrations (500 μg/mL) after 24 hours of exposure. The study suggests that cannabinoids may provide promising natural antifungal agents for further research and application in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
