The monograph Masterpieces of Polish Literature and Film: Pharaoh, The Wedding, Mother Joan of the Angels presents three selected works of the Polish literary canon and their film adaptations, which are distinguished by a high artistic level and belong to the classics of Polish cinematography: Bolesław Prus's novel Pharaoh (Faraon, 1895) and the film Pharaoh directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz (Faraon, 1965); Stanisław Wyspiański's drama The Wedding (Wesele, 1901) and the film The Wedding directed by Andrzej Wajda (Wesele, 1972); Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz's short story Mother Joan of the Angels (Matka Joanna od Aniołów, 1946) and the film Mother Joan of the Angels directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz (Matka Joanna od Aniołów, 1961). All three literary works deal with the questions of social norms, moral values, human freedom and human functioning in society. The final chapter of the monograph offers a more detailed presentation of the method of anthropological and morphological analysis of a cinematographic work that was developed by Seweryn Kuśmierczyk and used for analysis of the films.
