Medkulturna mediacija in zdravstvo v Sloveniji

The present monograph is dedicated to intercultural mediation, here seen as a distinct profession aimed towards bridging language, cultural, and other barriers in access to various public services, including healthcare. In Slovenia, intercultural mediation has won recognition predominantly in healthcare institutions, which responded to language and cultural misunderstandings by incrementally contracting intercultural mediators. The monograph is based on the authors' long-standing collaboration in projects led by the National Institute of Public Health in Slovenia and qualitative research pursued in 2018 and 2019. The research encompasses 15 semi-structured individual and 15 semi-structured group interviews conducted with intercultural mediators working in various cities across the country. Although some studies on intercultural mediation are already available in Slovenia, the present scientific monograph is the first to fundamentally reflect on the tasks of intercultural mediation in healthcare.
