Synopsis

The monograph commemorates the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Asian Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. At this occasion it brings together various researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences who share a common field of expertise in Asian languages and cultures. The nature of the monograph itself reveals the ambiguity of the academic field called “Asian studies”, pointing out its specific nature not as a classic academic discipline in the traditional sense, but rather as a multidisciplinary area, sharing a common research object. Contributors to the monograph come from various methodological backgrounds, conducting research within the framework of various disciplines, such as linguistics, philology, philosophy, sociology, political science, pedagogy etc. while at the same time delving into Asian languages and cultures.
