Synopsis

The goal of evaluating information systems is to create a successful and efficient system with which users are satisfied. It is important to recognise that the different aspects of evaluation are inevitably interrelated. Measuring performance and efficiency has a long tradition, but the emphasis on examining the user's experience of using the system is more recent. With a wide range of alternative or complementary information systems available, it is precisely the user experience that has a decisive influence on the use (or non-use) of a particular system. Therefore, we have envisaged the development of a framework for the evaluation of user experience in digital libraries, which on the one hand will enable the evaluation of various bibliographic information systems and on the other hand is intended as a theoretically sound set of tools for specific use in the evaluation of particular systems.
