Synopsis

In twenty chapters, the monograph deals with various considerations of the geostrategic and military aspects of the Slovenian military environment in the last two centuries. Based on a thorough historiographical knowledge, the authors analyze the political aspects of national security - focused on the Slovenian territory and population but considering the fact that until 34 years ago, the Slovenian territory was part of multinational states, which included more than just the Slovenian national territory.

Through the monograph, the reader is introduced to a wide range of military topics, from local aspects of the Napoleonic Wars, the attitude to war and the fighting of the Slovenian nation in the First World War, military creativity after the collapse of Austria-Hungary and within the framework of the new Yugoslav state, the resistance movement during the Second World War, integration into the Yugoslav military system, the formation of the own defense forces during the independence of Slovenia and its growth into the Slovenian Army, as well as several aspects of the national security of the Republic of Slovenia to the attitude towards soldiers after the wars.

The work contributes significantly to the knowledge of the important driving forces of the development of Slovenian society and the country in the geopolitically important transition area known as the Ljubljana Gate.
