Synopsis

The materials presented in Future of Democracy are the result of years of research into the theories and practices of democracy and citizenship. We argue that the current crisis of the hegemonic economic paradigm increasingly exposes a deeper crisis of politics per se, understood not merely as a failure to mitigate the inherent contradictions of the existing economic order, but rather as an incapacity to transcend the paradigm altogether.

The convergence of multiple crises – from deepening economic inequality and deteriorating public health to climate collapse and the rise of authoritarian regimes – reveals the ever pressing need to reimagine our social, political and economic models. The dominant frameworks we continue to rely on – our concepts, ideals, metrics, institutions, and practices – are not just insufficient, but they are structurally incapable of addressing the depth, breadth, and complexity of the challenges we face. shift.

All of this calls for a profound rethinking of how to establish a completely new relationship between life and work, production and consumption, and, especially, the individual and the communal. It is to this end that Future of Democracy materials have been put together, encouraging students to think more critically and creatively about democracy and its possible futures.
