Synopsis

Conspiracy theories have long been the subject of scientific research, particularly in political science, sociology, and psychology. The multi-authored book "Political Potential of Conspiracy Theories: A Study of Poland and Slovenia", edited by Professor Miro Haček from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Professor Agnieszka Turska-Kawa from the Silesian University in Katowice, Poland, provides a detailed overview of the political consequences and impacts of conspiracy theories in Central European countries. The studies presented in this volume contribute to understanding how conspiracy theories influence political trust, public perceptions of politics and public policies, and voting behaviour. Focusing on Slovenian and Polish case studies, the book adopts a comparative approach to analysing socio-political dynamics under the influence of conspiracy theories, particularly following major global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russo-Ukrainian war. "The Political Potential of Conspiracy Theories: A Study of Poland and Slovenia" successfully integrates empirical data with theoretical insights to demonstrate how conspiracy theories affect trust in institutions, voting behaviour, and political polarisation. The book offers valuable lessons for other countries, especially in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region, facing similar challenges.
