Synopsis

Selected chapters on the development of Slovenian libraries and librarianship in the 20th century shed light on the 70-year period from the end of World War I to Slovenia's independence. The term librarianship refers to the social subsystem of activities of libraries in the public domain and their integration. Therefore, the book mainly focuses on the processes related to the formation of elements of the library system and the placement of the libraries in the public domain within specific historical and social events. The introduction and development of professional foundations and services, the normative regulation of the field of librarianship, the professional integration of libraries and library workers, the professionalization of the field, and the development of concepts of the library (information) system are discussed in detail. The integration of Slovenian librarianship into the broader Yugoslav context and the main actors in its development are also presented.
