Festivalski kraji: koncepti, politike in upanje na periferiji
Keywords:
relations between festival and place, geographical margins, modern capitalismSynopsis
This book is about the relations between festival and place as they occur at the geographical margins. The link between festival and place is accorded some-thing of a special position in modern capitalism. In the condition, when post-modern bases for the accumulation of capital call for “difference”, both festival and place are convenient for its production. A festival is a “rooted” activity that contributes to the difference of a place, while place contributes difference to a festival. Through “difference”, thus, a festival and a place generate cer-tain desires for participation, through which also the periphery can attain the semblance of centrality. Festivals have an additional role in this, since they are not only a part of a place but also a part of much broader, sometimes global, cultural spaces and thus provide for their host places specific positions in these spaces.
