Synopsis

There are several methods of reading literary texts, which help us uncover all the linguistic and semantic levels of literature more easily. One such method is bibliotherapy. Several types of bibliotherapy are recognized. Most commonly, we speak of clinical and developmental bibliotherapy, and within developmental bibliotherapy, also of literary bibliotherapy. In contrast to clinical bibliotherapy, developmental bibliotherapy is conducted with mentally healthy individuals and in non-clinical environments, such as libraries, schools, and universities. Since various types of texts are used in developmental bibliotherapy, often specially adapted and not necessarily literary texts, within developmental bibliotherapy, we distinguish literary bibliotherapy, which is extensively discussed in this book. We largely focus on the internal experiences of literary characters and their emotions. Therefore, the book devotes the most attention to emotional conceptual metaphors.
