Yesterday’s World, Yet Again, or How to Survive in Slovenian Publishing
Synopsis
The text analyzes how technological and social changes are reshaping Slovenian book publishing. Digitalization has made book publishing cheaper and simpler, while the growing prevalence of reading in English and the rise of artificial intelligence are increasing competition and contributing to an even greater supply of books. At the same time, Slovenian publishing is becoming increasingly dependent on public funding, while its marketing competencies are weakening. The author therefore sees the future of publishing in a paradoxical return to its roots: high-quality editorial work, effective marketing, and the development of trustworthy publishing brands.
