Synopsis

Marko Kerševan was, together with Zdenko Roter, the initiator and founder of the sociology of religion in Slovenia. We can also consider him one of the fathers of sociological studies and university research in Slovenia in general, although there was a relatively well-structured tradition of social thought and analysis of various cultural and social phenomena even before his research. For the post-war period in the new, socialist Yugoslavia and in Slovenia, the work of Marko Kerševan was of fundamental importance for sociology to establish itself, and within it a relevant and in principle neutral, i.e. non-ideological, treatment of religion as a social phenomenon and as a specific practice. The present monograph is an important sociological and religious study of systems that connect and combine religious-ethical content, philosophical-cognitive concepts, and ethical-moral criteria and instructions, which to a large extent still determine the social doctrine of societies, their everyday life practices, values, and beliefs.
