Montalbano nella traduzione serba:: il caso de La forma dell’acqua di Andrea Camilleri

Il primo romanzo del commissario Montalbano La forma dell’acqua (1994), che rimane il solo romanzo di Andrea Camilleri finora tradotto in serbo, è stato pubblicato in Serbia, presso due editori diversi, nel 2005 e nel 2009, con il titolo Oblik vode (la traduttrice delle due versioni è la stessa). Si tratta però di traduzioni basate sulla traduzione americana del romanzo, The Shape of Water. Le traduzioni indirette serbe rivelano diversi errori e imprecisioni dovuti in molti casi al testo intermediario, visto che la traduttrice non aveva accesso al testo di partenza italiano. Il contributo analizzerà prima le traduzioni serbe del 2005 e del 2009, comparandole con il testo originale italiano, per poi confrontare i testi in tutte e tre le lingue, allo scopo di individuare eventuali interferenze della traduzione intermedia inglese nel testo d’arrivo in serbo. L’obiettivo è quello di stabilire se le eventuali modifiche nella seconda edizione serba siano legate al testo originale italiano, e se altri fattori extralinguistici abbiano influito sulla qualità della traduzione finale serba. I risultati della ricerca potrebbero illustrare le difficoltà affrontate dai traduttori “di seconda mano” e i modi in cui la traduzione indiretta può cambiare la sostanza del testo letterario di partenza.

Montalbano in Serbian: the case of Andrea Camilleri’s The Shape of Water

The first novel about Inspector Montalbano, La forma dell’acqua (1994), which is still the only Camilleri’s novel translated into Serbian, was published in Serbia with the title Oblik vode in 2005 and 2009 (the translator of both versions is the same). However, the translations are based on the American translation of the novel, The Shape of Water. The Serbian indirect translation contains numerous errors and imprecisions, caused in many instances by the intermediary text, as the translator had no access to the Italian source text. This research will first analyze Serbian translations from 2005 and 2009, comparing them to the original text in Italian. Then it will compare versions in all three languages, in order to ascertain possible interferences between the English intermediary text and Serbian target text. The purpose of the analysis is to determine whether any changes in the second Serbian edition are related to the Italian original and if other extralinguistic factors influenced the quality of the Serbian final translation. The results of this research could help to envision the difficulties faced by “second-hand” translators and the ways in which indirect translation can change the essence of the source literary text.
