Synopsis

The first part of the monograph analyses various aspects of the contemporary theory of the self in its relation to the other(s), starting from the concepts of empathy and intersubjectivity, according to the philosophies of H. Lipps and E. Husserl, and contemporary philosophy of mind. The second part of the book speaks about the philosophy of modern and postmodern art. It explores the relations between ancient Greek tragedy as a literary masterpiece and the concept of the tragic feeling of life as a philosophical, ontological category that developed in the early modern period, especially in romantic philosophy and arts.
