»Pošast novega humanizma«: modernizacija in transformacije subjektivnosti na Kitajskem
Keywords:
subjectality, Chinese modernisation, Chinese humanism, Chinese intellectual tradition, Western humanismSynopsis
The present book surveys the development of the notion of subjectality in the period of Chinese modernisation, between the reform period of the late-Qing Dynasty and the early years of the People's Republic. This volume, created in co-authorship by Jan Vrhovski and Jana S. Rošker, follows as a sequel to the foundational study on traditional Chinese humanism, Humanism in Transcultural Perspective: The Case of China, authored by the latter. The main topic of this book rests on the question as to how the aforementioned intellectual grounds changed, and to what extent they underwent further development in the period of Chinese modernisation, which was generally based on the critical re-evaluation of China's own intellectual tradition, on the one hand, and on a new series of in-depth encounters with the Western – particularly European – thought, on the other hand. In their joint survey, the authors engage in a close investigation of, above all, the idea of humanism and the Chinese conceptualisations of the notion of the subject, which were re-established again in China at the threshold of the age of modernity.
