Leisure Crafting
Synopsis
Leisure crafting refers to the intentional and structured selection of leisure activities based on an individual’s interests, needs, and values. The method aims to support employees’ well-being and skill development while increasing work engagement by transferring positive experiences from leisure to the professional environment. Research suggests that leisure crafting can serve as a compensatory mechanism for unmet psychological needs at work, such as autonomy, competence, and social connectedness. The effectiveness of this approach depends on various factors, including the available resources (e.g., time, financial support, organizational culture) and individual differences in work-life balance. Its implementation requires careful consideration to avoid conflicts between work and leisure, ensuring it remains a tool for personal development rather than an additional obligation.
