Boosts
Synopsis
Work tasks in modern organizations change frequently and require employees to act and make decisions in uncertain circumstances. In order to behave efficiently in the new work environment, employees need to develop new competencies and skills. To achieve the latter, organizations have to empower employees by implementing different interventions – one option being the introduction of boosts. Boosts are behavioural interventions that broaden an individual’s repertoire of competences or help them select the most effective strategies for solving new problems. Boosts rely on heuristics that guide individuals’ behaviour and decision-making more often than systematic-rational thinking. This enables individuals to make more accurate decisions in the workplace despite a lack of information and limited resources. By further developing existing or new heuristics, individuals can be empowered to make autonomous and informed decisions that lead to successful organizational behaviours.
