Synopsis

Activity-based working is an approach which recognizes that employees need a variety of activity-appropriate spaces, the right technology and organizational culture in order to perform their work effectively. It is about employees and organizing work in a more productive and enjoyable/interesting way, with the aim of creating the best work setting for each activity. This could be, for example, sitting or standing workstations, quiet rooms, break rooms, phone booths, meeting rooms, etc. Often it is a non-territorial work environment where there is no fixed seating plan, but there may be specific areas dedicated to particular teams. The approach is used when we want to optimize space and give employees more flexibility. This should allow employees to adapt their work to their working style and location. It is also necessary to provide an effective virtual working environment, ensuring that employees have access to all the information and the tools needed to collaborate with colleagues regardless of their location. Creating a culture that values cohesion, inspiration, accountability and trust is also very important. The approach is holistic, as culture, technology and the physical environment are closely linked. Together, these enable individuals, teams and the organization to reach their potential.
