Leadership’s Teambuilding
Synopsis
Team building for leaders is a tool that can help improve the performance of management teams. This is important because most management teams are self-reported by managers as ineffective, with only a fifth being highly effective, indicating a great need for effective and widely available interventions. Nevertheless, this is an area that is neglected when it comes to theory and research. The literature is scarce, and what is available is largely outdated. Although the modern business environment requires effective and cohesive leadership teams, there is little empirical evidence to support the solutions available, which can in part be ascribed to the broader trend towards less defined and increasingly diffuse leadership roles. In this chapter, we attempt to present the available literature in a comprehensive way and to integrate it into a theoretical model that will enable the effective organization and implementation of team building for leadership teams. New high-quality research is needed to further develop the field.
