Synopsis

In the process of art creation, we can acquire and effectively utilize the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, develop feelings and show empathy towards others. Using different approaches, we included content in art activities with older adults that indirectly addressed them and enabled them to consider or reinforce this content in the form of artworks. In doing so, we also identified the role of the educator in the process itself. Five older people aged around 70 were included in the study. The participants included in their artworks the specifics of their life situations, emotional experiences, elements of their own awareness, and changes affecting others who are close to them (e.g., family, friends). The study showed that the participants’ attitudes towards the content and the workshops themselves changed, as did the attitudes within the group.
