Challenges, dreams, and opportunities: Young people‘s attitudes toward entrepreneurship in Slovenia
Synopsis
The study examines the attitudes of young people in Slovenia towards entrepreneurship, focusing on the influence of education, competencies, financial literacy, and social factors on their decision to pursue entrepreneurship. The sample included 151 participants aged 18 to 30 years (average age 23.3 years), predominantly female (64.2%) and students. The method used was an online questionnaire (administered via the 1ka online tool), which measured attitudes across five key areas. The results indicate that most young people believe formal education does not provide sufficient entrepreneurial knowledge, with 80% expressing a lack of entrepreneurial content in curricula. Key competencies, such as courage, creativity, and networking, were rated as essential for entrepreneurial success, while 65% of participants identified the fear of financial failure as a major barrier. Statistically significant differences were found between age groups and educational fields. The study highlights the need to increase the integration of entrepreneurial content into school curricula, improve access to financing, and develop mentorship programs for young people. These measures could enhance entrepreneurial competencies, reduce barriers, and contribute to greater entrepreneurial activity in Slovenia in the long term.
