Synopsis

In the present monograph  we started from the thesis that the teacher always performs more than one role and that their roles are intertwined. We cannot, therefore, simply accept the logic that the central role of the teacher is either to teach or educate alone. Instead, when we talk about the teacher we must always take into account the multidimensionality of roles that form a coherent whole. In the first part we began with a historical overview and answered the question of how the role of the teacher was conceived by authors who are now considered the most prominent or well-known of certain historical periods. This is followed by a leap into the 20th century, when the changes after the Second World War also affected the school situation. The second part of the monograph examines the subject in the light of contemporary pedagogical-psychological discourses. The monograph concludes with an overview of the factors that significantly determine the role of the teacher. Special attention is given to the concept of respect and to the emergency remote education due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has also brought about some changes in the conceptualisation of the teacher role.
