Henrik Ibsen, Nora, translations, peripheral languagesSynopsis
Ibsen’s Et dukkehjem (A Doll’s House) counts as one of the most central texts of world theatre and literature, and Ibsen is one of the world’s most prominent playwrights. At the same time, he comes from a peripheral source culture and writes in a peripheral language, a fact which influenced the life of his texts abroad on every level: the interpretation, translation, adaptation, performance, and reception of his works, Et dukkehjem included, in different target cultures. Although there are several publications on the topic of translation of Ibsen and Et dukkehjem into peripheral languages, few such studies deal with translation between Norwegian and Slovenian, and none with Et dukkehjem, a gap this book seeks to fill.
