Synopsis

This article discusses the importance and role of translation in teaching Slovenian in the Slovenian Program at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. It starts by describing how Slovenian classes were introduced at the University of Belgrade and the importance of translation, especially of literary texts, as an initiative for learning. The role of translation in teaching Slovenian is presented through various curricula up to the current accreditation. Translation is also presented in relation to the status of Slovenian at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade before and after the Bologna reform. The second part of the article covers translation projects that have been or are still being implemented, both in cooperation with the Center for Slovenian as a Second and Foreign Language at foreign universities, as well as independently or in cooperation with other institutions in Serbia and Slovenia.
