Ukrajinski prevod lastnih imen v mladinski prozi Jane Bauer
Synopsis
In recent years, Slovenian literature has become more familiar to Ukrainian readers, including children. When translating children’s literature, one challenge for translators is translating names because they are often bright and emotional, contain a certain meaning, and express attributes of the character. Translators have sufficient latitude in searching for the best translation solutions to preserve these characteristics, reveal the semantic layers of the text, and make the text more accessible to the reader. This article analyzes the strategies and methods of translating names in the Ukrainian translation of two books by the Slovenian writer Jana Bauer: Groznovilca v hudi hosti (Scary Fairy in the Wicked Woods) and Groznovilca in divja zima (Scary Fairy and the Wild Winter).
