Is Time-Management the Path to Well-Being? – The Mediating Role of Work-Life Balance
Synopsis
A growing body of literature consistently reports positive relationships between time management, work-life balance, and subjective well-being. Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying the relationship between time management and subjective well-being are poorly understood. The present study aimed to address this gap by investigating the potential mediating role of work-life balance. We also explored whether leaders differ in their time management compared to non-leaders. The final sample included 102 employees (29 of whom were leaders). We found that work-life balance has a full mediating effect on the relationship between time management and subjective well-being. Contrary to expectations, we found that the level of time management does not significantly differ between participants in leadership positions and those who are not. We recommend that time management training should focus on leaders and incorporate strategies that contribute to enhanced work-life balance, as it represents the main link between time management and subjective well-being.
