Synopsis

Slovene has always been present in Trieste, but its status has never been taken for granted. It had to be cultivated and developed through various activities, with the greatest contributions coming from Italian state schools with Slovene as the language of instruction, cultural and educational centers, the Slovene theater, libraries, publishing houses, and various media. One could say that the use of Slovene in Trieste is limited and restricted. Therefore, it is crucial to continuously highlight and uphold the language rights already established while promoting mutual bilingualism and multilingualism, as well as mutual respect for diversity in general. Within the range and selection of available language courses, it is also possible to learn and study Slovene.
