Utrinki iz preteklosti zgodnjega Trsta ob pomoči svetih zavetnikov: Skica češčenja tržaških nebeških priprošnjikov

This article discusses the veneration of Trieste’s saints. Their presentation provides a multifaceted insight into the beginnings of ancient Tergeste and the emergence of Christianity, which shaped Trieste’s cultural and political profile during the first centuries AD. In research carried out to date, knowledge of the early Middle Ages is gradually emerging from the »darkness.« However, insights into the first centuries are still only scatte­red fragments of an incomplete picture. The focus is on Trieste’s Christian martyrs, revealing that quite a few »local« saints were imported into Trieste due to its geographical location and proximity to the Christian center in Aquileia.
