Trst kot izhodišče in navdih v literarnem delovanju Marice Nadlišek Bartol
Synopsis
This article focuses on the significance and role of Trieste in the formation of Marica Nadlišek Bartol as an outstanding nineteenth-century editor, writer, and national activist. Trieste is first presented from the perspective of associations, newspapers, publishers, and other activities that significantly helped shaped Trieste’s cultural landscape and consequently influenced the writer’s attitude toward national and literary engagement. The emphasis is on her role as the editor of the first Slovene women’s magazine, Slovenka (Slovene Woman), which was published in Trieste as a supplement to the newspaper Edinost (Unity). The article continues by highlighting Trieste as a key source of inspiration for Marica Nadlišek Bartol’s writing, with the city and its surroundings serving as the main settings in most of her narrative works, including the novel Fata morgana and the short stories »Na obali« (On the Coast) and »Pod streho« (Under the Roof).
