Tržaško (literarno) življenje Ludvika Oblaka in Zorka Simčiča
Synopsis
This article discusses Trieste’s role as a port of emigration and the Slovene writers Ludvik Oblak and Zorko Simčič, who each described their own experience of the city in their works. Oblak was born in Trieste and later emigrated to the Soviet Union, whereas Simčič found temporary refuge in the city before leaving for Argentina. For Slovenes in Austria-Hungary, Trieste was a window into the world, whereas for emigrants it was a link to their land of origin. This article examines certain historical events and ideological divisions in the twentieth century through the literature of both authors.
