Synopsis

The paper discusses the role of knowledge transfer in the successful functioning of organizations, intergenerational knowledge transfer, intergenerational teams and the issue of knowledge hiding as important organizational factors that can influence the functioning of higher education organizations. The results of three in-depth semi-structured interviews, carried out in 2024 in Slovenia with the help of employees at higher education organizations at the University of Ljubljana, were used. With the help of the thematic analysis of the empirical data, we found that the transfer of knowledge has a positive effect on the performance of the organization, and gained insights into intergenerational knowledge transfer and intergenerational teams, and found that knowledge hiding is also present in higher education organizations, which may be a result of the competitive environment and individualistic characteristics that are associated with the academic profession. The results of the research offer theoretical and practical implications that can be useful for higher education organizations and other stakeholders in the academic environment and in practice.
