Kaj blebečeš, puhla učenost? Čustva Hlapca Jerneja v angleškem prevodu

This article deals with the English translation of Cankar’s Hlapec Jernej in njegova pravica (The Bailiff Yerney) by Sidonie Yeras and H. C. Sewell Grant. It does not focus on the characters’ emotions, but on emotions as expressed through the style itself. In Cankar’s case, style is of particular significance because his command of literary language has traditionally been highly esteemed, even by adverse critics. Along with analyzing a limited number of examples in some detail, the adequacy of the translation is discussed.
