Synopsis

This article explores the progression of professional and ethical standards for court interpreters in Slovenia, particularly emphasizing continuing professional development (CPD) as prescribed by the Court Experts, Assessors and Court Interpreters Act (Zakon o sodnih izvedencih, sodnih cenilcih in sodnih tolmačih – ZSICT) and the Regulation of Court Experts, Assessors and Court Interpreters. It critically assesses the role of legal and translational competence in the performance of court interpreters, examines relevant case law, and considers the contribution of professional bodies to the maintenance of quality standards. Additionally, the article outlines the training framework established by the Association of Sworn Court Interpreters and Legal Translators of Slovenia SCIT®, underlining the necessity of structured, sustained, and purpose-driven educational programmes to ensure professional excellence in court interpreting.
