»Kako globok je pač ta vodnjak? In bog ve, kaj je vse doli na dnu?«: Motiv vode v kratki prozi Zofke Kveder

This article focuses on the theme of water in the short prose of the first professional Slovenian woman writer, Zofka Kveder. The central part of the article deals with her short prose and representation of the theme of water, the rise of which coincided with her move to Trieste. A detailed analysis of the short prose works »Paolo«, »Slika« (The Picture), and »Vodnjak« (The Fountain) shows how the writer introduces the theme of water as a carrier of various meanings by depicting various forms of water (the sea, a river, and collected water).
